Sedation Options | Oral sedatives, General Anaesthetic & Penthrox Sedation

Oral Sedatives

If you are anxious about your upcoming procedure, we may prescribe a mild sedative that you can take before any dental work commences which can significantly calm any nerves and leave you much more relaxed.

Penthrox Sedation

With Penthrox sedation, you control the amount of sedative that is administered simply by breathing in the active ingredient through a convenient inhaler.

Penthrox has been used in Australia for over thirty years by healthcare professionals and gives powerful pain relief while still leaving you comfortable and aware of your surroundings.

Penthrox is considered to be a very safe sedation option and is suitable for almost all patients and has no known drug interactions.

General Anaesthetic

For major procedures such as dental implants or wisdom teeth extractions, you and your doctor may decide to use general anaesthetic during the procedure.

Once general anaesthetic is administered, you quickly lose consciousness and feel no pain while the procedure is carried out and your vital signs are monitored by an anaesthetist. While the recovery period with general anaesthetic is generally longer than other sedation options, many patients find this option is best for their individual situations.

What sedation option is best for me?

As with all of our solutions, the best sedation option for you will be based on your unique treatment plan. Your dentist will discuss all of your options with you and together decide on the best choice for you.
